Peter Mallison SWAc
Peter Mallison is a figurative and portrait artist whose paintings explore the fundamental form and mannerisms of the human body. His paintings are produced predominately in oil on canvas.
Figurative works are created with a subtle modulation of colour across their forms and shaped with surrounding areas of translucent tones which weld the human form into an overall unity. With the minimal representation of surrounding objects and accessories within the composition of the painting the single figure exudes an awareness of silence, solitude and sensuality.
Portraits are approached with the intention of an academic study of his subject combined with a unique visual perception of the individual sitter. Either as a formal commission or private study, the paintings will exceed the conventional requirements of achieving a recognizable image - they will additionally transcend the personal humanity of the subject. Group portraits still retain the individual reflections of each person whilst maintaining an overall cohesion resulting in a richly composed work of art.
He studied Fine Art at Wolverhampton College of Art and gained the National Diploma in Art and Design. He was appointed as design director within a major UK fashion and textile group based in London.
His work has been exhibited in galleries mainly in London, Bristol, Devon and Cornwall. His paintings have also been acquired for private collections in the UK and Europe. He continues to receive many commissions for individual and group portraits. Elected as a member to the South West Academy of Fine and Applied Arts in 2007.
