Luke Shepherd's interest in portrait sculpture started the same week as his first Tai Chi class.
His mother ran a community dance project in Cardiff and he was offered a term's dance classes. He chose Tai Chi.
Little did he know how much that week would shape his life.
38 years later he continues to work as a portrait sculptor and a Tai Chi instructor.
He has bronzes in national museums and private collections throughout the UK.
He lectures, mentors and teaches sculpture courses to plastic surgeons.
He has exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts, London and the Academie Des Beaux Arts, Paris.
Shepherd is one of the few sculptors to cast, finish and patinate his own bronzes. He studied bronze casting at the Royal College of Art.
This enables him to be impeccable when it comes to standards of quality and craftsmanship.
He is a member and trustee of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen.
His main approach has been to choose something mind-bendingly complicated and stick at it unceasingly!
He lets his hair down (what little he has left) playing guitar and singing in a post-punk band.
You have done an amazing job of capturing Aram. It's a wonderful piece of work. You have really captured his serenity, warmth and dignity. It has brought a great resurgence of memories and feelings back and it brought tears to my eyes. I'm so glad I found you.
