Debbie Coles SWAc
Oil painter Debbie Coles lives on the stunning Jurassic Coast which provides infinite opportunities for her to work from life and direct observation, whether it be from the margins of the coastline where the dramatic red sandstone and chalk cliffs meet the sea or the banks of meandering rivers, their estuaries and habitat. Debbie’s plein air paintings reflect her response to capturing the immediacy of a moment in time and a sense of place.
In the studio, Debbie takes pleasure in documenting the evolving seasons through her portrayal of summer roses, autumnal fruits, winter foliage and berries and the emergence of the new life of spring. Working in the studio allows her the luxury of time to be more considered and creative whilst being ever mindful to retain the intrinsic qualities of working en plein air.
Rhythm and harmony of colour, light, movement, and creating a painterly visual language with a keen eye on composition are constant threads running through her work.
Debbie has exhibited widely in the Southwest and London and her paintings can be found in private collections across many continents.
